How to Install the Trust Certificate in Adobe
Go from yellow to green in Adobe Reader in 2 minutes: download the seal, check the fingerprint, install on Windows or macOS and enable trust.
Yellow to green in 2 minutes
Adobe shows validity unknown (yellow) until your computer trusts our seal. Install once — afterwards every Chegatta document, past and future, opens green. If you do not know what the colours mean yet, read how to verify a signature first.
Step 0: download the right certificate
- 1Open the trust page
Go to app.chegatta.com/trust — no login. The page always shows the active certificate and its fingerprint.
- 2Download the file
One click, one small
.crtfile. It is only the public half of the seal — the same one already embedded in every PDF. Nothing here is secret. - 3Compare the fingerprint
Before installing, confirm the file fingerprint matches the one on the
/trustpage. If you installed one of our certificates before, it may be an old rotated key — delete it and use the current one.
Windows
- 1Open the file
Double-click the
.crt→ Install Certificate → Local Machine scope (or Current User without admin rights). - 2Pick the right store
Select Place all certificates in the following store → Trusted Root Certification Authorities. This step is what turns yellow into green; installed anywhere else, nothing changes.
- 3Confirm in Adobe
Open Adobe Reader → Edit → Preferences → Signatures → Identities & Trusted Certificates → confirm the Chegatta seal appears as trusted for signed and certified documents.
macOS
Adobe on Mac uses its own trust store — macOS Keychain alone is not enough.
- 1Open Adobe settings
Adobe Reader → Settings → Signatures → Identities & Trusted Certificates → Trusted Certificates tab.
- 2Import the file
Click Import, select the downloaded
.crt. If it says "duplicate certificate discarded", that is fine: it was already there, carry on. - 3Enable trust
Select Chegatta Document Seal → Edit Trust → check Use this certificate as a trusted root and Certified documents → OK. (Our seal is a certifying seal — without the second box it stays yellow.)
- 4Revalidate the document
Close the PDF completely and reopen it — or right-click the signature → Validate Signature. Green.
Troubleshooting
I see a localhost certificate — is that it?
No. localhost entries are old development certificates on your computer — ignore them. What you want is called Chegatta Document Seal and shows the same fingerprint as the /trust page.
The trust button is greyed out?
You are viewing the certificate from inside the signature chain, where trust cannot be granted. Close that dialog and do it from the Trusted Certificates list with Edit Trust.
Still yellow after everything?
Check in order: (1) is the fingerprint the current one from the /trust page? (2) are both trust boxes checked? (3) did you close and reopen the PDF? 9 times out of 10 it is one of these three.
Does this give access to my machine or documents?
No. Installing trust only tells Adobe "believe this seal when you see it". No software installed, nothing shared, old documents never expire.
What if Chegatta rotates keys one day?
Old documents stay green forever — trust applies to the seal that signed them. For new documents, repeat the install once with the current certificate from the /trust page.
